A village, not a beachfront strip
Melkbosstrand sits further north on the same coastline, but it reads differently on the ground — single-storey and double-storey homes on generous plots, more garden between the house and the road, and a quieter pace than the apartment-and-glass-box strip around Big Bay. Window briefs here are more often about a garden-facing lounge or a street-facing bedroom than a single dominant mountain-view wall.
The same wind, less of the tourist traffic
Melkbosstrand catches the same south-easter and winter storms as Bloubergstrand — this is still open West Coast, not a sheltered inland suburb — so the wind-rating and marine-grade hardware argument carries over in full. What's different is the volume of exterior products: fewer wide, wind-exposed patio walls, more standard-width awnings and roller shutters over individual house-scale openings.
